Im tossing around the idea of putting a sidebox of google ads up on Clapboard as an investment in the sites future, and Im wondering what you guys think of that. I actually block Googles page ads at the source (pagead2.googlesyndication.whatever) so I rarely see them, but some ads are just the HTML and dont bother me much. I havent even read up on what the rules are for such a thing – they have different options for different revenue streams (put a search box on the site, contextual ads, a banner…) and Im just starting to think about whether it would be a good idea to start insuring against a future in which the site stops being subsidized by my tech work.
Anyway, your comments/thoughts/flames will be carefully considered, given that I do this thing as my outlet to my family and friends as much as just as a general creative outlet.
