Alright, lets do this party people.
Put This In Your Pipe and Smoke It
Continuing the Summer Music Mix Tape theme, this week I have a pair of warm weather tunes for you. A duo of dandies, if you will.
First lets celebrate the long days of summer with a charming little ditty by
“La Surf”
A Passage in Time
2002
Lava Records – Track 11
This particular track is off the Mesa, Arizona bands debut album, which was a healthy mix of punk, ska, reggae and Spanish/Portuguese influences. Singles included One More Minute and Over Seasons a song that I consider to be a continuation of La Surfs instrumental introduction.
Thoughts:
The aural space created by that introductory electric guitar riff is awesome! It sets the scene and the rest of the song unfolds in this open, beach-like, carefree atmosphere. The wordless vocals, mixed in as an instrument, nothing more, nothing less, add to the friendly vibe, like youre just chilling with friends, hanging on the beach and enjoying life…Enjoy life…
Let me know what you think – about the song, the info, anything. Also, share your summer songs with me. Im always looking for new stuff to listen to so let me know what tune(s) you turn up when the weathers warm and the windows are down. post a comment here, or email me at ejosgood@syr.edu
Keep checking back this week for my next post: an equally incredible summer jam for the nighttime hours.
