Thats two things, for those of you keeping score. First, Microsoft has announced that today is global antipiracy day. I didnt know about it in advance, so I couldnt get tickets to the conference, but Ill be down at the local bar celebrating my new knowledge with a pint. In the spirit of getting people educated about piracy, heres a list of things about piracy that are just as true as whatever Microsoft is going to tell you.
- Piracy encourages software purchases
- Piracy drives the purchase of hardware
- Piracy keeps Microsoft at #1 in OS/Office Suite Sales
- Piracy is bad for open source
I dunno. Im sure theres more, but Im too focused on internet infamy to care.
Two weeks ago when the Sarah Palin Report was out, I put it in my temp folder and told a few people about it. Someone leaked it to somewhere, because before the day was out on the 9th, it was on DailyKOS, Reddit and a bunch of other places, all linking to where I have it. I dont know why they didnt pull it themselves to host, but whatever. So right now, of my top 20 search terms, 17 are about Palin. The other three are about clapboard – #2 is, oddly, clapboard.org. Then #5 is clapboard, then #20 is “clap board”. To give you an example of how little traffic I get on a regular basis, this tiny thing gave me a 70x bump in traffic. Unfortunately, none of it came to the front page, really. Even the conservatives who came to get it to make fun of liberals who “fell for” the report didnt bother to come to the main site.
But thats why I have Kurt and Emily – theyll drive traffic here with their musical tastes. Have you heard Krols #3? Its pretty rad.
