Most appetizing post title ever?
Yes! Fortunately for you, there aren't going to be any pictures of my snot, despite the fact that there's so much of it that it's hard to keep out of pictures. And food. And everything else, really. Yes!
So, here to amuse you is the tale of two phones replaced and the phones that replace them. Here to repulse you is more vague description of gross sinus problems. Here to entice you is mention of the writing project that Casey and I are slowly putting together, as well as the script I'm working on slowly-but-surely.
Past the break, you'll find all this and more - click through if you dare.
So it was time to get rid of my Pre. It's cracked, the keyboard is starting to fail in spectacular ways (keys not registering when I type, or one key sticking until I crush the keyboard under my thumbs, which no doubt exacerbates the situation), and the battery life was getting to be measurable in the nanoseconds. I'll talk about how much I love the Pre below, but let's just say that were it not for unfortunate manufacturing problems and new-gadget lust, I'd be keeping it much longer.
Anyway, I continued my tradition of buying awesome phones on launch day, and grabbed myself an Epic 4G. A Galaxy S for Sprint. Whatever you're calling it, I'm pretty psyched so far about the 4 inch AMOLED, the Android, the form factor and the overall design. It's skinny! It has a 16GB SD card. I don't like that to sync Outlook (not well, either) you have to buy a $40 3rd-party app. I don't love the keyboard yet - not enough differentiation. I'll learn that, though, because the phone is only 24 hours old. Anyway, I already have an FTP program on there that I have yet to get working and an SSH program that works amazingly well. I remotely updated a server across the country from my cell phone yesterday afternoon. WTF. And there's more coming - Android is good for the nerds among us for things like that.
I miss the way WebOS handles multitasking, and the shots of WebOS 2.0 yesterday just pained me all the more - how does Palm, of all people, who hasn't done anything right in about 10 years, nail the mobile OS so damned well? Now, I'm not as familiar with Android as WebOS yet, so I'm not convinced that the whole thing is just wrong, but still, WebOS works.
I also bought a Blackberry 9650 yesterday to replace the old Instinct. I hardly liked anything about the Instinct - a mid-range feature-phone with a sub-par touchscreen and no support from Samsung or Sprint to speak of. Oddly, I sort of feel the same way about the 9650, at least in that it's a featurephone rather than a real smartphone. My own fault, maybe, for coming to the game so late, but I'm here to learn what Blackberry does so well that no one else does. We'll see. As it stands, for international phones at least, it was this or an old(er) WinMo6 phone, and kind of yeah right after the WinPhone7 unveiling. At least the 9650 will support BB6 when it eventually ships. And international was definitely the point of this phone - I'd like to be able to make calls from abroad should I need to do that. We'll see how that works - I have a French SIM I can try next time I'm there, at least. Doubtful it'll make sense to get a Brazillian SIM for 2 days of shows.
Okay, what else?
- I hate my sinuses. They suck.
- I'm working on my screenplay and I feel like I've broken the first act that's been giving me so much trouble. If this structure holds, I'll be able to get my characters to the end, finally. Or at least move on to the second act.
- Casey has been doing some writing, too. Soon, I'll tell you about what.
- Went to Porn Star Karaoke again last night. Fun times.
Anyway, that's it for now. Happy Wednesday. Do something inappropriate today for me.
