Random Musing

Monday's lament

Here we are, about to start a new week.  How many of us are wondering how we got to where we are? I'm definitely one of the people who are.  Welcome to our lives - it's weird here, so enjoy it.  Try not to look too deep.

and so it begins - 2010

  • Should I do a photo a day?  Probably, right?
  • maybe write the occasional essay or something longer and more structured than a blog post with bullet points
  • I'm definitely paying no more attention to celebrity news.  That one's for sure.
  • I'd like to eat better and work out more - cheesy, but always-legit resolutions.
  • shoot more.  If I had one resolution to keep in mind, it'd be this one.  So easy to let the little parts of life interfere with this goal
  • get back involved with the movie community
  • keep in touch better, both with new people and old people - facebook, texts, calls, notes
  • read more
  • sleep less
  • cook more
  • waste less time dicking around on the internet

That's sort of a resolution list and sort of a musing list on things to keep in mind as the new year starts.  If I could put "be smarter" on there, i would, but I'm trying for concrete things.  The many "mores" on that list have to be offset with some of the "less" bullets, and even though there are fewer of them, I think that with even an hour less dicking around online a day, for example, I could accomplish things.  Things like going to the gym can force the "no dicking around" rule, too, and once the spell is broken, it's easy to not get back online - witness the last few weeks and my total absense from the online world.  Today, for example, I try to see off friends and family as they head out of town, and in between, I do a big old backup and update of everything that I can backup and update - webservers, phone, PCs, laptops... you name it.

Anyway, some foods for thought, anyway.  Happy 2010.

finally the weekend

It's not that it really makes that much difference to me whether it's the weekend or not, but there is something about the relaxed nature of the weekend that makes things seem easier, even if I'm doing the same crap (which I will totally be doing).

Anyway, lunch with Tony at Warner today was cool, then I went and finally got my car washed on the way to Crown Bar where I had to look at their broken TV.  It's a beat up old thing, but I brought it home to look at because they don't want to buy a new one.  If it's broken, it goes to the recycle guys immediately - if there's anything I've learned from my massive cleanup of the garage, it's that I need to throw things away faster.  And that I don't need any more outdoor extension cords.  And that I do need more power strips.  Point taken.

So yeah, make the weekend memorable, kids - you don't get this one back.

edit: do it with A Plus D's "A Very Bootie Christmas" from 2006.  This has made it into my high rotation for the Christmas season once again.  Go figure.

Some things

Notes:

Eagles
Jesus - they looked almost as bad last night as last week.  We're going to get murdered next week.  And I don't want that.

Ninja Assassin
Why haven't I heard of this?  I might cancel my Thanksgiving party just to go see it.  I'm shocked that I haven't been inundated by ads yet, actually - it's only a couple weeks away, right?

Girl arrested for offering sex for tickets
WTF.  What's so wrong with that?  Are the police mad that she might get tickets for way less than they're worth? I mean, I guess it's prostitution, but who really cares?  Guys can't get laid, and they might trade a ticket for some sex.  Maybe it's worse than I think.  Any thoughts?

The Expendables
This movie could be awesome.  It could be terrible. It could be so terrible that it's awesome... we'll just have to see.  I guess it's already buried in the middle of August of next year, so there's not much hope for it.

Forza 3
There's a free trial on the 360 right now.  If I was at home, I'd download it.  Drew has probably taken the day off to make sure he plays through the whole thing.

That's about it for now.  I love the fall colors here in Glen Mills - if it wasn't raining, I'd be out giving mom's bike an Italian tune-up.  As it is, I'm communicating with assistants and coders trying to get everything working everywhere. Also, drinks with Tori and Joe S was fun last night - going out with people who know a ton of people that I sort of knew 15 years ago is always interesting.  For the record, it'd be great if the Phillies managed not to fuck it up, but no one can beat the Yankees, right?  I mean, they're the Yankees.  And I'm going to New York in a day or two.

Dad's Birthday

Today would be my dad's 63rd Birthday - we'd be having angel food cake tonight for sure.  Oddly, I am going to be home in Philly tonight after lunch with Becca, so that's going to be nice.  The Eagles play tonight, and if I wasn't going to be home watching with my mom, I wouldn't even watch.  I'm so mad at them, I could spit (as my mom sould say).  Anyway, I'm at Drew's for the next couple of hours, during which I'll be catching up on news and alerts and doing some work.

I know I promised more interesting updates, but I'm failing at that.  I'm trying, though.  Happy Monday!
