Dragonfly

Dragonfly LogoOver 1000 updates from the Dragonfly database (the CMS that ran the site before I moved to Joomla).  Definitely expect some bugginess here, but the text is all here and searchable.  Woot to that.

What's slightly unbelievable is that it was the middle of 2009 before I moved off of Dragonfly.  For some reason (as I write this in the middle of 2011), it feels like I've been on Joomla forever.  Maybe that's a testament to the learning curve?  To the fact that I'm too enmeshed in version 1.5 after only 2 years to be able to move to 1.6 (or 1.7, now...)?  I don't know, but I do know that when I realized that I had started PCW before moving to Joomla my perspective on time shattered into a million pieces.

Happy Birthday Mike!

Thirty years old, Michael. Welcome to the club.

Im glad to have been a part of more than half of those 30 years. Its an honor to know you and to be counted as a friend to someone so excellent. I look forward to spending our 30s in exactly the way wed like - its our time now. Happy birthday, old friend, lets make the next 30 even better than the first 30.

How many times a day do I visit Google?

I come downstairs every morning and do computer work. Im bad at it, so I have lots of questions and lots of issues. Every time I cant answer something, I Google. Adding a product to MWS and dont have a photo? Google. Forget where I downloaded TightVNC from? Faster to hit Google than to try http://www.tightvnc.com, really, cause what if Im wrong?

Google is useful.

Thats all the update I have right now. The work/no-work dichotomy has numbed my brain, and I cant think of anything to write. Its been cold in LA this week.

End of the Season

Yesterday we watched the Eagles fall to the Saints again, this time in the playoffs. Same score, same unfortunate result. We got farther than I thought we would, thats for sure, but it still sucks to lose.

Anyway, its another playoffs weekend this weekend, and Im watching lots of football, but theres also some reading to be done and some other random stuff. Maybe Ill even go out tonight, given the three-day-ness of this weekend. Well see.

Happy Sunday.

Out of shape!

2 litres of water weigh about 4.6 pounds. Throw in the bottle and the fact that I filled the bottle so full of water that theres not even an air bubble and I figure on a nice, round 4.75 pound weight. You see, the other day when I went swimming for the first time I noticed how out of shape my muscles were for pulling me through the water. I knew that they were out of shape for lifting heavy things - I sit upon my fattimus assimus all day and do nothing. Heavy lifting is defined as getting myself off the couch to go get more cheetos, you know? But I figured that since I wasnt giving out to visible rolls of fat yet that my muscles were still there, just dormant, sleeping away the years like I sometimes wish I could.

Turns out, that aint the case. My muscles are as dead as disco, and I figured it was high time to do something about it. Enter the 2-litre of water-as-sprite. I hefted it happily, its weight so insignificant that I felt like a giant (unless I contemplated the fact that it was just a bottle of water), its girth so large that it felt like it should be heavier than it was. 50 reps of all sorts of exercises came easily, and although I was winded at the end, I was only a little sore. Soon, however, I realized that I had basically started at the lower limit of what it meant to get back in shape. I could only do this a few more times and still consider it useful. I needed more weight.

Enter Target gift card from my mom and a shopping spree at the red-and-white themed store. Now I own two ten-pound vinyl-covered weights in approximately the hue here-shown. Before it was one sub-five-pound bottle of water, now its two honest-to-god weights.

But theyre hard!

More than 2x as hard as the water bottle, I should say. Im certainly not doing 50 reps with these yet. Pathetic, I know, but Im old, so shut up. Im going to list below the exercises that I remember, and if you think of any more, you should tell me. Tips and encouragement (even in the form of "10 pounds? You weakling!") will be appreciated, too. This story continues after the Read More link.

Go Eagles!

Yesterday was a little closer than I wanted it to be (okay, a LOT closer than I wanted it to be), but I was so shocked by Jeremy Shockeys personality turnaround that I almost didnt notice the score for most of the game. In some way, its fitting that we won on a buzzer-beater, given the nature of the first game these two teams played. Anyway, on to the Saints. give em hell, Garcia and company.

BootieLA was awesome on Saturday night - best crowd in months and great sets from all involved. MysteriousDs first set might have been the best of the night, mainly because she was spinning newer stuff that hadnt been heard as much (or at all) before. Emily, Mario, Vanessa, Chip and Courtney all came eventually, and it was just fun all around.

Back to the grindstone here today. Gotta get to the bank so I dont bounce a check, gotta get plenty of work done because Im pretty far behind just in general on all things Wardrobe Supplies. Maybe I can even get a current joblist. Wouldnt that be hot?

New Years Cleanup

So its been awhile since Ive updated, I guess. I hope your new years celebrations were awesome and that your Christmas revelry was as good. The last two weeks of my life have been busy as can be - lets say that its going to cost a lot of money to print the pictures that I took and Im sad that I took so few.

Casey left yesterday amid flight madness. It was great to have her visit, but long-distance relationships suck. Thats all Im going to say about that.

Im working on posting some Christmas pictures later on today, but Ive been ignoring work that I desperately need to do, so Im going to hit some of that first, now that my internet is back up. While it was down, I started to organize my pictures from the fall and winter and pick out the ones that Im planning to print. Ill probably select a subset of those to put up here for all to see. Also, I probably owe you an e-mail with pictures in it, so if thats the case, let me know and ill send you something.

Okay, Im off to get some work accomplished. Im back to updating regularly now that 2007 is fully in swing.

Home for the Holidays!

Hello everyone!

Im in Glen Mills for the holiday season - now through the 27th of December Ill be here for your Christmas enjoyment. Weve chopped wood, built a fire, seen a movie and fixed the roof vent. Andrew will have to e-mail me a picture of myself on the roof and then Ill post it. Rad. In the meantime, heres Drew chopping wood.

The next few days are going to be last-minute Christmas stuff and maybe seeing some friends. Well see what happens with that. Im not sure Im up for much going out, anyway. Maybe. The TRANSFORMERS trailer looks cool, if a little too BEAST WARS for me. 2007 is shaping up to be a good year for summer movies for me, I think.

Thats it for now... three days till Christmas!

Monday in New York

First of all, congratulations to the Eagles, whose win over the Giants keeps them alive in the wild card race. Its not often that with only two games left, the ol Birds still have so much at stake: wild card, playoffs, possible division champs... the skys the limit. Theyre still a team that gets knocked out of the playoffs in the first round, but if they manage to beat Dallas.... Whatever. Football next week will be watched in my moms living room in front of the fire.

Ive spent the last few days in New York, which has been fun and tiring. Ive been getting some work done this weekend, and still have a few hours yet to do. Weve been working on putting together a new website thatll go live sometime early in the new year, so thats been fun. Seeing everyone has been great - its amazing how much of a good time I have out here, whether Im bar hopping or hanging around someones apartment.

Tomorrow in the late morning or so, Im heading home to Philly and hoping for no incidents. Katie reminded me of the travel mishap I had on the train to moms place once when our train ran over a person. It made me shiver because I now know what it sounds like to hit a man with a train. Creepy. No travel incidents - lets get to Philly safe and sound.
