Clapboard - Full Frontal Nerdity

Clapboard - Full Frontal Nerdity

Good morning!

So it's already Thursday morning.  Turns out that I have to go to Denver today, not tomorrow, as I've been thinking for the last 2 weeks.  I have this problem where I remember the date in question, but assume that it's another day of the week than it actually is.  Stupid, I know, and a habit that i need to get out of.  So yeah, Denver today.

Porn Star Karaoke was pretty full the other night - fun times.  Just me and Casey and Loewen from our little group of semi-regulars, but we got free shots, so that was worth it, right?  I didn't sing, but if I feel as much better next Tuesday as I did last Tuesday, I'll probably give a warble a shot - we'll see.

This morning, rather than doing the work that's piled up or replying to the emails that I owe (or starting some emails that I need to start) I started a simple-but-effective ethnic cleansing of my kitchen wherein the ethnicity defined by duplicates and unused shit in my kitchen is getting removed wholesale.  It's going into boxes and getting dumped, for now, into the black hole that is the Tim Stormer Memorial Shelf in the garage.

Okay, back to it.  Maybe I'll take a picture in Denver that I can post here.

WHS woes

WHS drives

I'd like to believe that I've learned my lesson this time.   Only time will tell.

Excited by the potential of WHSv2, I finally got around to putting it on an awesome server (last-genQuad-Core Xeon) in an awesome case (20 hot-swap drive bays) and migrated all my WHSv1 crap to it.  I added a couple of hard disks, too, 'cause why not? Then M$ decided to pull drive extender, which is bullshit.  Then they expired my beta copy without giving me an upgrade path or even an extension.  Just the "your shit expired, now it shuts down every hour" that they do with all Windows server packages.

Anyway, since the PS3 was having hiccups even reading my media off the WHSv2 box, I decided that enough was enough and have spent the day getting WHSv1 on that machine and now I'm trying to get things copied over and everything set up the way I want it.  I have enough SATA ports for 12 drives, which is boss, but at least through tomorrow I'll only load up 3 500GB drives and let that balance for a day or so before I get all jiggy with more drives.  By the end of the week, we're going to be at ~10TB of space, so that's okay.

Meanwhile, I'm re-copying ALL of my friggin' data again, hoping not to do this ever again (or at least until someone comes up with a linux-based home server solution.  I should write up my personal requirements for something like that and see what I come up with.  The lesson, by the way, is that you never, ever install a Microsoft Beta product on a computer that you expect to get daily use out of, even in a home environment, because they'll slowly cripple and then kill everything good about it while you helplessly watch.

sneezing update

So, I'm allergic to dust.

Fuck.

The allergist gave me that "80 pricks" test or whatever, and dust (dust mites) were far and away the biggest thing on my arm, followed by feathers, something else, and cats.  Also, cottonwood trees.  Nothing much else registered, so there's that.  He gave me two prescription nasal sprays, so we'll see how that goes.  Maybe they'll deaden my nasal passages to the point of allergy immunity?  We'll see.

Anyway, that's that.

I have three or four people interested in a BRANDED shoot sometime soon - let's see how many I actually manage to land.  So far, my flake-to-shoot ratio is abysmal.  I'm trying to be more specific and faster at responding so I can rule out my own potential flakiness from the equation.  If I can get 4 more shoots in before I leave, I'd be a happy camper, I'll tell you that much.

'nuff of this - back to work.  Gotta update the MWS homepage.  After that, it's figuring out how to make stew from leftover ribs.

already deficient!

I was going to be better!  Well, I still may be, but not, at least, for the first week of the new year.  Instead, I went to Miami and NYC in quick succession, didn't get much sleep, worked a lot, and spent a lot of money I didn't want to spend.  At least I looked like a responsible adult (mostly) for doing all of that.  Sigh.

Anyway, I haven't really been focused on the new year, what with the madness of BootieLA on NYE and then having 11 people in my house all day on the 1st, then departure (thanks, Drew & April!) on the 2nd at 6am.  All nonsense, if you ask me.  Now, of course, it's easy to tell myself "Take time, get over your exhaustion and sore throat, you've got all year to eat right and get into better shape" and then I'll end up yet fatter and lazier than I already am.  I was pretty good about it at the end of December (you know, when I wasn't eating Christmas cookies), but them again, I didn't have a rockin' sore throat.

Ah well, the rigors of travel.  Time to go to aa.com and see how many miles I have to start the year.  That'll at least make me feel better.

into the groove

It's tough to get back into the groove over here!  I have so much to do and so little motivation to do it that it's a little stupid.  I did just have a productive meeting with Carlos that may lead to more Il Punali stuff happening, but you never know.  Now I have to go over to the bar to see what's happening with the computers over there, which is fine, but not exactly profitable, you know?

Casey and I did go to the zoo the other day, which is something I forgot to mention, so here's a picture of an elephant.

AAAAACHOOO!

Yo!

It's been a miserable 4 days - I had to stop taking antihistamines on Thursday last, and since then, I've been sick, tired, and sick and tired of blowing my nose.  I've gone through more than one box of tissues (I have them in multiple places, of course) and I've been having trouble not just biting the heads off everyone around me.  I hate having allergies, allergy attacks and i really hate sniffling, and the last 5 days have been the worst of my life, allergy-wise.  I have trouble sleeping, of course, so I haven't had much to say.

My imagination hasn't dulled much, but man, i can't *do* anything at all.  That's all for now.  I'm trying to get work accomplished - it's REALLY REALLY hard right now.
